PRP in urology

Understanding the role of platelet-rich plasma within structured, evidence-informed and individualised care.

At Holisan, all care begins with a specialist consultation. This first step helps confirm the diagnosis, assess the patient’s eligibility, review treatments already undertaken and discuss the potential role of PRP, either alone or in combination with hyaluronic acid.

When the indication is considered appropriate, a treatment protocol is proposed within a clearly defined medical framework.

On the day of treatment, a blood sample is taken. The blood is then centrifuged to concentrate the platelets and obtain PRP (platelet-rich plasma). Platelets are a source of growth factors involved in the body’s natural tissue repair and healing processes.

Prepared immediately before use and exclusively from the patient’s own blood, PRP is an autologous preparation, which minimises the risk of rejection or allergic reaction. However, individual responses to treatment may vary.

Minimally invasive and performed on an outpatient basis at the clinic, the procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. PRP is injected into the targeted area according to the indication and, when necessary, may be administered under ultrasound guidance. Patients can generally return to their usual activities afterwards.

Local and generally temporary side effects may occur following the injection, including redness, bruising, or a sensation of warmth or tightness at the injection site.

After the procedure, follow-up is an integral part of the care pathway. Holisan’s protocols include structured assessment of outcomes at different follow-up points, particularly at 3, 6 and 12 months, in order to document clinical progress in real-world practice.
